Work in context

Toni Mueller is a mixed-media artist whose work centers color, material, bodies, intimacy, and play.

Her paintings often begin with a scene: people at rest, caught mid-gesture, sharing space, or moving through the energy of a night. Close framing and saturated warm-cool color turn these observed moments into worlds of their own.

Texture is structural. Heavy passages of paint sit beside quick marks and dark contours, so the image changes as the viewer moves closer. The surface carries its own history of looking, responding, and revising.

The practice also extends beyond the studio into live scene painting. Working in real time, Toni responds to music, movement, and the feeling of a room, allowing the event itself to shape the canvas.
